Custom ERP for a small business in India

Off-the-shelf ERP is built for the average company. A business with two cities, four roles and one unusual way of doing returns is not the average company, and the customisation to make the package fit usually costs more than the package.

I build the system around the operation instead. The three systems on this site run a six-branch rental company, a two-city decor company and a restaurant group. Each was paid for in stages, each runs on the client's own hosting accounts, and none charges per user.

Where it usually breaks

01

The package covers 70 percent of the work, and the remaining 30 percent is done in Excel next to it, so the data is split again.

02

Every user is a licence, so the warehouse and the drivers never get logins, and the system only knows what the office types in.

03

The vendor's roadmap decides when the feature you need arrives, and the answer is usually the next version.

In production

From Edge Decor ERP. The operations system for Edge Decor, an event furniture and decor rental company in Delhi and Mumbai. Quotations, sign-offs, stock by city and date, challans, returns, invoices, payments, staff, bills and the month's profit in one place. Built in 2026.

A quotation: customer, event, dates, the sign-offs card, the summary with GST, and the item lines with their rate and days

Quotation to booking in one screen

The salesperson picks the customer, the event dates and the items. Each line can carry its own dates, come from either city, and shows what is free there. Items the company does not own are marked outsourced with a vendor and a cost the customer never sees. The quotation becomes the booking in one step, and cannot become two.

A completed booking as operations sees it: the customer, the event, the line items and the timeline, with no money anywhere

Operations never see a price

The warehouse team in each city runs its own goods: challans, returns, grading. No screen, document or notification they see carries a rupee figure.

Reports for the month: bookings, booked value, collected, direct cost, job margin, clients served, win rate, stock utilisation, and the charts

Reports with a chart builder

Top customers and products, utilisation, fulfilment time, grading results, win rate, collection rate, margin. A chart builder for the owner's own charts, shareable with the team, and the period exported to Excel in one click.

What it costs

Builds of this shape usually start at the Starter package, from ₹4 lakh, paid in stages as each part goes live. Hosting runs on your own accounts and there is no charge per user.

What does your business do differently that the packages keep asking you to stop doing?

Tell me what you need. I'll reply within 24 hours with a plain answer on whether this is worth building, and roughly what it would take.
